Prof. De Oliveira has expertise and teaching experience in the areas of Ethics and Political Philosophy, Hermeneutics, Phenomenology, German Idealism, Neurophilosophy, and Philosophy of Religion.


Academia

Full Professor of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Porto Alegre, Brazil, National Council Researcher (CNPq, since 1995), Visiting Professor at the University of Toledo, Ohio (since 2007), and Coordinator of the Assessment Area of Philosophy at the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES, 2018-22). After earning a Ph.D. in Philosophy (State University of New York, 1994), Nita de Oliveira conducted postdoctoral research at the New School for Social Research (1997-98), London School of Economics (2004-05), Universität Kassel (2005, 2012), University of Toledo, Ohio (2007-08) and University of Miami (2014-15). He was associate professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC, 1994-99) and has been a fellow researcher of the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung (2004-05, 2012).

Prof. De Oliveira has expertise and teaching experience in the areas of Ethics and Political Philosophy, Hermeneutics, Phenomenology, German Idealism, Neurophilosophy, and Philosophy of Religion.

He has been Coordinator of the Neurophilosophy Research Group (Brain Institute, InsCer), Editor-in-Chief of the philosophy journal Veritas, member of the Clinical Bioethics Committee and member of the coordinating committee of the Brazilian Center for Research on Democracy, created in 2009. He also founded the Brazilian Society for Phenomenology in 1999 and the Research Group in Theories of Justice in 1996.

He supervised 18 post-doctoral internships, 32 Master’s theses and 31 doctoral dissertations, publicly defended.

He published 5 books as a single author (monographs), co-organized 11 volumes and has more than 50 articles published in national and international journals.
